I haven't blogged in a while, but I have a feeling I'm going to start blogging more now. So lately, I've been adjusting my lifestyle to balance out work and play. I feel that for my entire college career, I've work non-stop to the point where I guess I could be kind of boring.

Spring break 2009 can only be described by one word: EPIC!!!!!!!!!!

Fri - Sun = Vegas | Sun - Wed = LA

Summary:

We left in 2 separate groups for Vegas. Tony, Min, Connie and me left earlier and arrived at Vegas by around 3ish. The rest of the group (Patrick, Pat, Kevin, Manu) arrived around 10pm. For the people that arrived earlier, we went shopping and ate at the buffet in Wynn. Afterwards, we went clubbing at Pure in Caesar's palace. The line was CRAZY. We were there around 10:15ish and the place was packed. It took us around 1 and a half hours to get in. The line was insane and we had to hold it up for 30 mins to wait for group 2 to arrive. Unfortunately, we were forced to make a decision - to enter or to leave. We decided to enter, but the very second afterwards, we saw group 2....

Anyways, thanks to Pat somehow, she was able to get group 2 inside the club within 40ish mins. The clubbing experience was awesome. Pure has a rooftop where people can get some fresh air and the ambient lights were awesome inside. The songs they played were great. I loved the group dances. We all need to do it again!!!!! High-five, high-five =P

Afterwards, we all went back to our suite at MGM Signature. The balcony view was awesome. I felt like I was Lex Luthor or something while I looked over the city on the 34th floor. The night lights made the city beautiful. After getting back, we decided to play truth or dare till 5am and let's just say we found out a lot about one another =). No worries, what happens in vegas STAYS in vegas.

On Sat, we went to get brunch at Bellagio. The buffet was awesome and they have everything you could possible want =P. Then, we went shopping and decided that we wanted to watch Jubilee. Afterwards, Manu and I decided to gamble a little - Texas Hold em Bonus! The price per hand was pretty steep, but overall we had a great experience. =). Then, we went to catch the show and it was awesome - the superman scene was THE BEST. Afterwards, we went to eat at a restaurant at the MGM Grand. Unfortunately, Kevin felt a little sick and he didn't enjoy the dinner as much as the rest of us. Then, we went to party at our suite. We played 10 fingers, but instead of dropping a finger, we took a shot. =P. Again, we found out more about each other and it was an awesome night.

On Sun, we ate the Paris buffet for brunch. Then unforunately, Manu and I needed to leave, while the rest stayed till the nite. My plane got delayed for 2 hours, which ended up making things very interesting. Somehow, my LA trip helped me reach another grand epiphany: If something doesn't work out the way you imagined it, treat it as a blessing in disguise. Honestly, I would not have enjoyed the LA trip as much as I did if everything ran according to my original plan. However, because of the bumps in the road, it turned out that the trip was the best that it could possibly be =).

The details of the trip is reserved for 391/543, so if you want to know the details, you will have to decode the message or ask me (if you are part of the elite group =P). Then again, everyone in 391/543 already knows the whole story, so this isn't really anything you have to decode. However, before I go into code mode, I'll briefly talk about what I did. Instead of arriving at 5:30ish in LA, I arrived after 7pm. Then I went to go pick up a rental car at Thrifty and then I drove all the way down to Darren's place. I would have gotten so lost had it not been for Kevin's GPS. That item totally saved me like no other... Thus, thank you Darren and Kevin for making my trip possible. My Epiphanies (Part 4)

A few more weeks have flew past us and we are near the end of another month. So I'm sure you have all heard of the saying that for every end, there is a new beginning. However, to what extent do you truly believe that statement? Do you ever get the feeling that we are all fooling ourselves... there was never an end originally. What thing/event that you thought "ended" only hid away in its own dimension... waiting to come out and strike at the right moment in the future. Now, don't get me wrong. The thing/event that "ended" may not be a bad thing at all. Perhaps it was a great thing... something that you always wanted; however, not until recently has it surfaced into reality again and made you rethink twice about who you really are... what you really want your future to be like... Now, I encourage you all to put your shoes in such a position. Say you are satisfied with your current life and who you currently are. So recently, I have had two crazy dreams. One of them proved how far I was willing to go to protect a friend.... a good friend. Trust me, if you are 391/543, there is nothing that will hold me back. None of the fears I currently have will factor into the equation when it comes to situations like I had in my dream...

On the other hand, the second dream was much more painful. This dream came down to a choice... a very difficult choice. So if have two extremely, extremely good friends who you care deeply about and you have to choose hurting one or the other, which one would you choose? For me, it wasn't a choice. I couldn't choose either. However, the problem was that by not choosing either, I ended up hurting both. Ironic eh? However, if you think about it, is such a situation possible? Definitely yes. Let's just hope that none of us will ever have to go through a real version of my dream.

My Epiphanies (Part 3)

Today has been a really, really sad day. It is sad because of how true this statement is:

"Even the best falls down sometimes..."

I've always been a huge fan of Federer and I could never have imagined him losing today. The reason why I enjoy watching his matches so much is because his tennis playing style is reminiscence of what I consider an "ideal" person should live his/her life. One should be able to adapt in any situation, learn many tools to be a well-rounded T-shape person who is knowledgeable in many disciplines, and master each of those tools to perfection to be a respected, kind-hearted person. However, the one main issue that will always pop up is that even if one have achieved this "ideal" state, that person will not always be successful. Even the best or ideal person will fall down every now and then... it's just how life works.. always throwing curve balls at us.

That said, I have finally reached the final state of my transformation. I believe I have decided what kind of person I want to become, and I will strive to be that "ideal" person. Today's tennis match has taught me a lot - even though it might be painful for one to fail even if he/she is being the best person he/she could potentially be, the failure should be taken as a blessing in disguise. Sure, even the best may fall sometimes but if the falls don't kill you, you will become a stronger person. Hence, go for what you believe in and just do what you love. Don't worry about failure because it is inevitable. You can't always win, but as long as you learn from your failures, you will become a harder person to beat...

After another week and a half in NY, I have continued my self reflection and reached a new state in my transformation. I have reprioritized my goals and decided its time to cut back on what I considered important before and invest extra time in what are my "new goals." So what are these goals? Well, it does you no good if I told you. Everyone has their own individual goals and you must search deep inside your soul to figure it out. So, if you know what your goals are, should you reevaluate them? Is it time to reprioritize them? Only you can answer that question.

That said, I want to semi-share one of the best dreams I've ever had in my life. This all happened yesterday night (just almost 24 hours ago). Out of all the moments I've had in life (whether they were in dreams or not), yesterday's dream was easily one of the top 10. I woke up so unexpectedly... I wanted to stay in the dream forever. It was so real, so unexplainably awesome. So this begs the question: "Does it predict the future?" Well, let's just say I would pay ANYTHING to make it the future. However, wishing is one thing. Only the future can tell if the dream will become true. That said, let's get into some of the details. I call this dream: "The Night to Die For"

The Night to Die For

The dream started in Las Vegas sometime in the future in August. I was there with a few of my Harker and Berkeley friends, and we were all in a pent house in either MGM or Bellagio. I just remembered the room was huge and the gold-colored walls were filled with beautiful sketches of birds and flowers. We all went on walks from one end of the strip to the the other end. Obviously we did some shopping and touring in between.

So far, it's just a cool, relaxing trip. However, things are about to get interesting. So around 3pm, I got a call from someone. This person told me that there's something important and we should meet up as soon as I get back from LV. Since I thought it was extremely crucial and time-urgent, I decided to leave LV immediately on a private jet (yea, I'm not sure where I got the private jet, but it was waiting for me at the airport). I talked to my friends and told them that I'll join them after this critical mission, but I needed to go now.

So right after the plane landed around 7pm, I saw an Audi R8 waiting for me. Everything was preconfigured to my taste, and I saw a note written by Shaun: "It's time to bring out your A+ game. It's now or never. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully this gift will bring out your true potentials. Meet you back at Las Vegas." Driving in the car, I drove immediately to the destination. My heart was pounding fast... I wasn't sure what to expect, what to believe in, what I should do... When I finally arrived at the place, the person who I was supposed to meet wasn't there. However, there were a lot of other people there. Using them as resources, I had to figure out the hidden clues and use those hints to finally find the true destination... I had to search deep in my soul... some of the clues contradicted each other, and I had to use my self confidence and my hunches to finally figure it out.

My Epiphanies (Part 1)

So after living in NY for 2 weeks, I got a chance to start my transformation. The first thing I wanted to do was to train my mind in a completely different way. Sure, I may have practiced the dark arts of staying up late and sleeping 3-4 hours on average for the last 2 years, but I still feel that I am weak in some parts of the mind. What part(s) of the mind am I weak in? I'm not quite sure, but I have a hunch... Now I need to go back to the basics and train...

Luckily for me, my roommates Alex Wu and Jimmy Tang have been getting me to work out quite a lot. We go to the gym 5 days in a week, and we do a bunch of different exercises. Interesting enough, working out and training the brain kind of goes hand and hand. It trains you how to be patient, be confident and better yet, to push for that last set even when your mind tells you that it's impossible. It's basically like the last crusade except slightly different...

That said, my favorite quote for the last two weeks is: "Confidence is just like your muscle. If you don't practice (work out) your confidence, it will wither away. Train you muscles. Train your confidence." Now, you can easily apply this to life... Basically, go for what you want. Don't ever be shy because you may never have the opportunities again. I know it's hard, but if you want to reach your maximum potential, just go for it. It is definitely easier said than done, so I'll try to listen to my own advice... Meanwhile, it may not be a bad idea for you to try it out yourself...

Expect the unexpected and don't expect the expected

Today was full of the unexpected... I am at lost with words on how bad they were. However, maybe it is a sign. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. Maybe this is all teaching us something... You know there's a saying that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. I will take that statement to the most extreme. If I do survive this...

Besides all the unexpectedness, I must say that today has shown me something very important. Friends are hard to come by, and you need to keep your closest friends close. Never take them for granted and enjoy your time with them as much as you can. You never know when something new/unexpected might happen. Believe the motto. It is always true: Expect the unexpected and don't expect the expected.

It is time for me to take one step at a time and embrace my new ideas on what the meaning of life is and what kind of ideal person I want to become. 391/543 - you people have taught me so many things on Thursday. It is time to start my transformation.

I've had the dream... It actually predicted the future and the reality was an EXACT replica of the dream. However, my dream failed to tell me the reasons. So what is that one thing you've always wished for? Have you been searching for it all your life? What would you do if you've been given a second chance, but your success rate is less than 1%? Would you say screw it or would you throw that last punch at the shark? I know what I would do.

What is the Meaning of Life and what is your ideal person?

What is the meaning of life? My friends and I have argued about this for years and we never came up with a great definition. I personally believe that the meaning of life is to be happy. What about you? I think the best answer I've heard is to be satisfied. So, are you satisfied with your life? That is such a hard question to answer...

So how would you define what is your ideal person? I.E., what would you be if you can be ideal? Originally, I defined it as the Renaissance man - a person who is "T-shaped" and is very knowledgable in a broad range of topics. However, it has been brought to my attention that there's something even more important: The IDEAL person is someone who is kind-hearted. Everything else stems from that. I completely agree. As a matter of fact, I finally realized why I was never satisfied with myself - my definition of the ideal person was wrong... So if you got to be an ideal person, what kind of person would you be?

Self Reliance

The most important lesson one can ever learn is to be self reliant. Sadly, I've recently noticed that many people in this world aren't self reliant, and I want to make a new goal in my life to teach as many people as I can to stop resorting to alternative methods. Unleash your potential. You do not need to depend on anyone else, or ANYTHING else. Be confident and you can solve your own problems.

So on a different but similar topic, I've recently gotten the approval to work on researching stock trends as my Econ thesis. I am extremely excited about this because it works hand and hand with Simlio. My Econ 140 professor asked me to look into the Efficient Market Hypothesis and see what I can get out of it. This will definitely be a very challenging task since a lot of people already believe that stock prices are random. However, is it really random? Is there a slight possiblity that they aren't random? Maybe there's a slight pattern out there that no1's thought of yet. Simlio, we need to be self reliant. People out there might not believe us, but we need to trust our instincts. "Expect the unexpected, and don't expect the expected."

End of EE20, CS61a, and almost the end of E190

Today was a very, very hectic day. It started off with a pretty challenging quiz in EE20, but luckily, everything started to connect together during the middle of it, so I hope I did fine. After that, I had my last discussions sections with my cs61a folks. It was indeed sad; however, we need to think optimistically - for every end, there is a new beginning.

Then at 6p.m., I had my last ee20 midterm. It was easily the hardest of the 4 midterms we had, but it was also the most interesting. Some say that you know a midterm is well written if you learn things during the test. I have to say I learned the most during this midterm than the other 3 combined. That said, it wasn't easy, so *fingers-crossed*.

After I got back around 8ish, I worked on my cs70 ps. Special thanks to Darren and Calvin for helping me out. Calvin, do you remember on Tuesday you told me that companies want to hire people like me because I'm passionate about programming? Well, I think you easily meet that criteria especially since you wrote a program to do the extra credit... That is what I called passionate. I mean I will gladly work on "cool" projects, but to actually write a program for an extra credit probability problem is completely different. Keep up the good work!

The end of classes

It finally hit me today... school is almost over. Yes, this semester is almost over, but school in general is almost over too - one more year left for me.

One year passes by so fast, and it's difficult and painful to see how our future lives will be after college. Just like in high school, college is the time where people got to meet new people, interact with old friends, and do fun activities together. However, once college is over, pretty much everyone is on their own.

Hence, I have a proposal. Everybody should take an extra step to keep in touch with their friends. Do you have friends that you wish you had talked to more? Well, what are you waiting for? Talk to them. If you don't now, when will you ever start? Just start again, and I believe that you will be able to keep those connections/memories alive again.

That said, I want to send a word out to those people in my cs61a sections. Tomorrow may be our last discussion together, but let's keep the connections alive. If you ever want to talk or ever need any advice, don't hesistate to ask. You know my contact info, so shoot me an email right away. Besides that, we should also hang out and play tennis some time, go get lunch, or even dinner. Life is all about connections, so believe in it.

That said, I need to go back to study for my ee20 quiz AND midterm tomorrow. I still don't quite get why both are on the same day, but what can you do...

After senior year in high school, I thought it would be an awesome to have a huge and memorable ending... the end to blogging. However, after going through 2 and a half years of not blogging, it seems like the knowledge during those times have been lost, well at least not preserved. One's brain can never be perfect and it can always be faulty unless we record the events.

That said, I am making a return to blogging and hopefully I will blog everyday. Maybe I'll even do some of those "code" sections again for all my students to debug =P. Yes, I used to actually create the code with scheme, so you can very well decode it with scheme too, although Java would probably make your lives easier!

- The business plan is on its way, worked on by our MBA, Ed.
